Norway To Host World Environment Day 2007

This year, the international World Environment Day (WED) celebrations will take place in Tromso, Norway. UNEP invites individuals and communities around the world to commemorate this important United Nations day.

In support of International Polar Year, the WED theme selected for 2007 focuses on the effects that climate change is having on polar ecosystems and communities, and the ensuing consequences around the world. The slogan is Melting Ice - A Hot Topic?

By posing the question "Ask a polar bear, ask a farmer, ask an island, ask an insurer, ask an indigenous person, ask yourself!", we wish to stress that climate change is an issue for everyone. From the artic to the tropics, from the poorest to the most affluent, we all have something to lose. For many of us, we can also make a choice to become part of the solution instead of part of the problem by consuming less energy and making climate friendly choices in our daily lives.
