Former Executive Director of UNEP (1973-76) and Secretary-General of the 1972 UN Conference on the Human Environment and of the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development.
He was previously President of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), and Chairman of the International Development Board. During this period, Mr. Strong served as Alternate Governor for Canada of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD); the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).
He has received honours from more than twenty universities in Canada, USA and United Kingdom, and was awarded the Tyler Ecology Award in 1974.
